Village Information


The Village of St. Joseph was founded 28 April 1881. St. Joseph is a fast growing community of approximately 3,000 people. Our Village is a friendly one, ideally located for family living, and its residents take pride in keeping their homes and premises neat and attractive.

The Village has many local services. The community has a grocery store, gas station, apothecary, fitness centers, tanning salons, beauty shops, nail salon, barber shops, auto repair shops, real estate offices, auction house, multiple insurance agents, multiple antique stores and malls, several other unique stores, and five restaurants.

St. Joseph has one doctor, one dentist, one orthodontist, and two chiropractors. Carle Clinic and Hospital as well as Provena Covenant Medical Center are 10 miles away. continued...

There is currently a grade school, middle school, and one high school in the Village. The schools pride themselves on their excellent curriculum, faculty, students, parents, and sports. Small class sizes are another key feature of these schools. The new middle school opened in the January of 2006. Parkland College and the University of Illinois are within ten miles.

The community has a public tennis court, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, softball diamonds, and an all weather track. The Village also has two spacious parks for residents' recreation needs. The Village is in the process of building a 40-acrea community park. Phase I was substantially completed in 2007. Finishing work is ongoing into 2008. Phase II grant will be applied for in 2008.

The Township has a library that is located in the downtown of the Village. The library is linked to the Lincoln Trail Libraries System.

The Village also has many very active organizations including: Senior Citizens, American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, Masonic Lodge, two Women's Clubs, Home Extension, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Christian youth organizations, and many organized sports.

St. Joseph is the home to six Churches including: United Methodist Church, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Church of Christ, Faith Baptist Church, Our Savior Lutheran Church, and The Living Word.
